Johann Grip (Author, Translator)

Born: 1964 - Norway

Johann Grip is a Norwegian poet, author and translator. He is former co-editor of the literary magazine Vagant and editor in The Norwegian Poetry Book Club. He has translated, among others, Gottfried Benn, Arno Schmidt, Catullus’ poems (in collaboration with Hennning Hagerup) and Horats’ Epodes and Satires.

As an author, Johann Grip has published the collection of poems Enkle dikt (Simple Poems, 2002) and Denne kjærligheten (This Love, 2008), as well as the novels Den korte veien hjem (The Short Road Home, 2005) and Reisen fra Karawankene (The Journey from the Karawankes, 2007). Johann Grip was the editor of Brecht på norsk (Brecht in Norwegian), an anthology with several translations of Bertolt Brecht poems (The Norwegian Poetry Club 1999). In 2017 he published his own translations of a wide selection of Brecht poems in Norwegian: Landskap i eksil (Landscape in Exile, 2017).
