Johann Christian Hauptmann (Kantor, Organ, Bach's Pupil)

Born: c1711 - Weltewitz, Saxony, Germany
Died: July 13, 1758 - Mutzschen, , Saxony, Germany

Johann Christian Hauptmann was born to Johann Christoph Hauptmann (schoolmaster in Weltewitz). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on December 11, 1727; studied there from 1727 to 1733, and at Universität Leipzig from 1733. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach wrote in a report from August 23, 1730: “not yet ready to be used in the 1st choir (figural music)”. After his studies, he became Kantor and organist in Brena (1737); and later Kantor in Mutzschen (1755).
