Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Sonnenkalb (Bach's Pupil)

Born: April 22, 1732 - Triptis, about 45 km south-east of Weimar, Thuringia, Germany
Died: March 20, 1785 - Waldheim, Saxony, Germany

Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Sonnenkalb was a German Kantor, organist and schoolmaster. He attended the Thomasschule in Leipzig from 1746 to 1754, and was on friendly terms with J.S. Bach and his family. In 1754 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig, but in the same year he was appointed organist and schoolmaster at Herzberg, near Torgau. He was then Kantor at the nearby Dahme from 1759 to 1761, and died at Waldheim.
