About the Artist:
Tamás Kopasz was born in Hungary in 1958. After graduation from the Acadamy of Fine Art in Budapest in 1981, he immediately began his career by exhibiting extensively which included participation in numerous solo and group exhibitions all over Europe, Russia and the USA. He has won two scholarships and was awarded the Barcsay Foundation Prize for his outstanding work in 1991. Since then he has also been a member of the Hungarian Foundation for the Arts and the Hungarian Artists Association. In his oeuvre as a painter Tamás Kopasz has touched upon a number of themes, but since 1984 he has remained in the school of non-figurative painting. First by means of collages and later through focus on surface structure, colour and shape he expresses the meaning of the mysterious and the chaotic. Like Pollock’s action paintings, Tamás’s work demonstrates a kind of surrealistic automatism.
