BCW: Quodlibet BWV 524- Revised & updated Discography

October 18, 2017:

Quodlibet is a composition based on a collage of pre-existing and usuall familiar melodies. One of Bach’s earliest vocal works is the secular Wedding-Quodlibet, BWV 524. This is both a most unusual composition with a mixture of earthy texts of narrative and commentary, as well as a study of his compositional interests and his involvement in the Bach Family tradition. The Quodlibet survives in a score in Bach’s hand datable to 1707-1708. Scored for SATB and continuo and lasting about 11 minutes, this Quodlibet is potpourri of music and text discovered less than a hundred years ago, first explored in the early 1950's when modern Bach scholarship began, then studied and recorded. The annual gatherings of the wider Bach family in Erfurt, Arnstadt or Eisenach have long been the subject of interest and Bach’s Quodlibet embodies these annual celebrations.

The discography page of Quodlibet BWV 524 on the BCW has been revised and updated. See:
Complete Recordings (11): http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Vocal/BWV524.htm
The revised discography includes many listening/watching options as part of the recording details. When you click a link to video/audio, a new window will open above the discography page and the video/audio will start to play.

I also put at the BCW Home Page: http://www.bach-cantatas.com/
2 audios & 2 videos of the Quodlibet. A short description below the audio/video image is linked to the full details at the discography pages.

I believe this is the most comprehensive discography of the Quodlibet. If you are aware of a recording of this work missing from this page, or want to correct/add details of a recording already presented on the BCW, please inform me.

You can also read on the BCW the recent discussion of the cantata in the BCML (4th round): http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Vocal/BWV524-Gen2.htm

Enjoy,
