Herr Gott, dich loben wir,
Herr Gott, wir danken dir:
dich, Gott Vater in Ewigkeit,
ehret die Welt weit und breit. |
Lord God, you we praise,
Lord God, we thank you:
you, God the Father in eternity,
the world reveres far and wide. |

So stimmen wir bei dieser frohen Zeit
mit heißer Andacht an und legen dir,
o Gott, auf dieses neue Jahr
das erste Herzensopfer dar.
Was hast du nicht von Ewigkeit
vor Heil an uns getan;
und was muß unsre Brust
noch jetzt vor Lieb und Treu verspüren?
Dein Zion sieht vollkommne Ruh,
es fällt ihm Glück und Segen zu;
der Tempel schallt von Psaltern und von Harfen,
und unsre Seele wallt,
wenn wir nur Andachtsglut
in Herz und Munde führen.
O! sollte darum nicht
ein neues Lied erklingen
und wir in heißer Liebe singen? |
So, in this glad time, we intone
in fervent devotion and lay before you
O God, at this new year,
an initial offering of the heart.
What have you not done
for our salvation through eternity,
and what does our bosom sense
even now of love and faithfulness?
Your Zion regards absolute peace,
it encounters prosperity and blessing;
the temple echoes with psaltery and with harp
and our soul overflows,
as we simply tend the embers
of devotion in heart and mouth.
O! should not therefore
a new song resound
and we not sing in ardent love? |

Gottes Güt und Treu
bleibet alle Morgen neu.

God’s goodness and devotion

Ach treuer Hort,
beschütz auch fernerhin dein wertes Wort:
beschütze Kirch und Schule,
so wird dein Reich vermehrt
und Satans arge List gestört.
Erhalte nur den Frieden
und die beliebte Ruh,
so ist uns schon genug beschieden,
und uns fällt lauter Wohlsein zu.
Ach! Gott, du wirst das Land
noch ferner wässern,
du wirst es stets verbessern,
du wirst es selbst mit deiner Hand
und deinem Segen bauen.
Wohl uns, wenn wir
dir für und für,
mein Jesus und mein Heil, vertrauen. |
Ah loyal refuge,
safeguard as well your precious word furthermore,
safeguard church and doctrine
that your realm might expand
and Satan’s dire ploys be disrupted.
Preserve simply peace
and beloved repose,
then what has been allotted us will suffice,
and we will encounter vast wellbeing.
Ah! God, you will continue
to water the land,
you will ever enhance it,
by your own hand and your blessing
you will cultivate it.
Blessed are we, when
forever and ever, if we trust in you

We prize all such gifts from you,
Father upon heaven’s throne,
which you do reveal before us
through Christ your Son,
and further request of you
to grant us a peaceful year,
shielded from any sorrow
and to leniently nourish us. |
