Choral [S, A, T, B]

Lobt ihn mit Herz und Munde,
Praise him with heart and mouth
welch's er uns beides schenkt,
-both of which he gave us!
das ist ein' sel'ge Stunde,
It is a blessed hour
darin man sein gedenkt;
when we think of him.
sonst verdirbt alle Zeit,
Otherwise all the time is wasted
die wir zubring'n aut Erden:
which we spend on the earth:
wir sollen selig werden
we shall become blessed
und bleib'n in Ewigkeit.
and remain so in eternity.

(Strophe 6 Von Gott will ich nicht lassen by Ludwig Humbold 1563)

2

Aria [Tenor]

So praise the Highest, the king of heaven,
So praise, you peoples, the king of heaven,
der Leben und Segen uns wunderbar giebt.
Who wonderfully gives to us life and blessing.
Come, praise the proofs of grace sent from above
As evidence of how very much our Saviour has loved us.

3

Recitative [Bass]

Auf Gottes Preis muss alle Freude zielen;
Every joy must aim at God's praise;
where God's Spirit bestows the oil of joy,
da lässt er bald susse Hoffnung fühlen,
there he soon makes sweet hope felt
und fühlt das Herz der Freudigkeit,
and when the heart feels joyfulness,
then the mouth is ready for God's praise.
Johannes selbst, der noch verborgen lebt,
John himself, while still living hidden in the womb
empfängt der Herr mit frohem Springen,
welcomes the Lord with a joyful leap
Elisabeth erkennt den Heiland aller Welt,
Elisabeth recognises the Saviour of all the world,
ihr Jauchzen wird Maria beigesellt.
Mary joins in her shout of joy.
Maria will von Recht und Gnade singen,
Mary wants to sing of righteousness and mercy
was Gott an ihr in aller Welt gethan.
what God has done in her for the whole world
Sie siehet seine Macht und Gütigkeit,
She sees his might and goodness,
die Strahlen, so die Wahrheit streut, in Demuth an.
The rays that spread the truth in humility
O wohl, wo Herz und Mund also in Freuden schwimmen
What joy, where heart and mouth in this way swim in joy
and in the praise of God most high join together in delight.

4

Aria [Alto]

Sich in Gott und Jesu freuen,
To rejoice in God and Jesus
ist ein Vorschmack jener Lust.
is a foretaste of the pleasure to come.
Welt, bei deinen grünen
World,in your green
Maien klebt verbot'ner Sündenwust.
May there adheres the forbidden wasteland of sin.

5

Chorus [S, A, T, B]

Ich freue mich im Herrn,
I rejoice in the Lord
Isaiah 61 :10
and my soul is joyful in my God
