|
Wer mich liebet, der wird mein Wort halten,
und mein Vater wird ihn lieben,
und wir werden zu ihm kommen
und Wohnung bei ihm machen. |
Whoever loves me will keep my words,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come unto him
and make our dwelling within him. |

O was sind das vor Ehren,
worzu uns Jesus setzt,
der uns so würdig schätzt,
daß er verheißt,
samt Vater und dem heilgen Geist
in unsern Herzen einzukehren.
O! was sind das vor Ehren!
Der Mensch ist Staub,
der Eitelkeit ihr Raub,
der Müh und Arbeit Trauerspiel
und alles Elends Zweck und Ziel.
Wie nun? Der Allerhöchste spricht,
er will in unsern Seelen die Wohnung sich erwählen.
Ach, was tut Gottes Liebe nicht?
Ach, daß doch, wie er wollte,
ihn auch ein jeder lieben sollte. |
O, what honors are these
which Jesus lays before us,
who esteems us so worthy
that he promises
together with the Father and the Holy Spirit
to move into our hearts.
O! what honors are these!
The human is dust,
the spoils of conceit,
the tragedy of troubles and toil
and the aim and goal of all wretchedness.
How then? The Most High says,
he will elect our souls as his dwelling place.
Oh, what does the love of God not do?
Oh, that indeed, as he wants,
each one should also love him. |

Komm, heiliger Geist, Herre Gott!
Erfüll mit deiner Gnaden Gut
deiner Gläubigen Herz, Mut und Sinn.
Dein brünstig Lieb entzünd in ihn'.
O Herr, durch deines Lichtes Glanz
zu dem Glauben versammlet hast
das Volk aus aller Welt Zungen;
das sei dir, Herr, zu Lob gesungen.
Halleluja! Halleluja! |
Come, Holy Spirit, Lord God!
Permeate, with the goodness of your grace,
your faithful hearts, valor and minds.
Ignite your fervent love in them.
O Lord, through your lamp’s gleaming
among the faithful you have gathered
people of every tongue of the world;
this be sung to you, Lord, as praise.
Halleluiah! Halleluiah! |

Die Welt mit allen Königreichen,
die Welt mit aller Herrlichkeit
kann dieser Herrlichkeit nicht gleichen,
womit uns unser Gott erfreut:
daß er in unsern Herzen thronet
und wie in einem Himmel wohnet.
Ach Gott, wie selig sind wir doch,
wie selig werden wir erst noch,
wenn wir nach dieser Zeit der Erden
bei dir im Himmel wohnen werden. |
The world with all kingly realms,
the world with all its grandeur
cannot match this grandeur
by which our God delights us:
that he be enthroned in our hearts
and reside as in heaven.
Oh God, how blessed indeed are we,
how blessed will we yet become,
when we, after this time on earth,
will dwell with you in heaven. |
