Stefan Adam (Baritone)

Born: Germany

The German baritone, Stefan Adam, graduated with diploma as church musician from the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf. He then studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Kammersängerin Professor Edda Moser, Dietger Jacob and Kammersänger Professor Kurt Moll. He finished his studies with artistic distinction.

Stefan Adam's artistic activity was initially centred in the areas of Lieder, oratorio and concert (including participation in premieres of great oratorio works in Düsseldorf and Cologne and at the 4th International Schumann Festival of in Düsseldorf). From 1988 to 1999 he was a member of the vocal ensemble "3MAL NEU" of the Düsseldorf composer and church music director Professor Oskar Gottlieb Blarr.

Stefan Adam gathered first stage experience during his studies at the Opernschule Köln, where he worked with Professor Jacob Jenisch, Dr. Michael Hampe and Andreas Homoki. Master-classes with Kammersänger Theo Adam and Professor Dr. Franz Müller-Heuser and Lieder presentation studies with Professor Jürgen Glauß expanded and extended his education.

Already during his studies Stefan Adam got his first engagement at the Theater Hagen, where he was engaged from 1994 to 2001. During this time guest engagements led him to Theaters in Essen, Münster and Flensburg. Since 2001-2002 season he an ensemble member of the Städtischen Bühnen Münster. With the start of the 2004-2005 season followed an appointed at the Staatstheater in Kassel.

Stefan Adam has worked with conductors like Leon Botstein (New York), Helmuth Rilling (Stuttgart), Peter Neumann (Cologne), Ernest Martinez-lzquierdo (Barcelona), Will Humburg (Münster), Professor David de Villiers (Essen), Gerhard Markson (Dublin), Roberto Paternostro (Kassel), Georg Fritzsch (Kiel) and Eiji Ouwe. He has also appeared renowned orchestras such as Staatsorchester Kassel, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Collegium Cartusianum Köln, Orquestra sinfonica de Barcelona i nacional de Catalunya, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Philharmonie Essen and NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover. Important directors in his previous career have been Hilsdorf Dietrich, Gabriele Rech, Dominik Neuner, Andreas Homoki and Christoph Meyer.

In the 2008-2009 season, Stefan Adam appeared as Jochanaan in opera Salome by Richard Strauss, as Captain Balstrode in the retrial of Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes, in the title role of the opera Der Fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagner and the Marquis de la Force in the opera Dialogues des Carmélites by Francis Poulenc. In addition, he performed as a soloist in Bußtagskonzert in the performance of War Requiem by B. Britten.
