Jonathon Adams (Baritone)

Born: October 2, 1990 - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The Canadian baritone, Jonathon Adams, received Canadian High School Diploma (Edmonton) in 2008). He studied at Victoria Conservatory of Music in Edmonton, Alberta (2010-2011: Class of Nancy Argenta); The Royal Academy of Music (2011-2012: Class of Sarah Walker); and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Masters degree in Early Music Singing 2013-2017: Class of Xenia Meijer). He has also attended the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute (June 2011: Ivars Taurins, Ann Monoyios, Peter Harvey), The American Bach Soloists Academy in San Francisco (July 2011: Judith Malafronte, Max van Egmond), The Dutch National Opera Academy (2014/2015: Class of Rosemary Joshua), Stuttgart Bach Akademie (Residency August 2017: Dorothee Mields, Peter Harvey), Fondazione Giorgio Cini Residency (January 2018: Sacred Music of Jan Dismas Zelenka - Václav Luks); and Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme (August 2019: J.S. Bach Cantatas - Philippe Herreweghe). He also studied privately with and Emma Kirkby (2011-2012), Edith Wiens (2012-2013) and Olivier Lallouette.

Jonathon Adams has appeared as a soloist under Masaaki Suzuki, Philippe Herreweghe, Laurence Equilbey, and Alexander Weimann, among others, with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Bach Consort (Director: J. Reilly Lewis), Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Director: Jeanne Lamon), Ricercar Consort (Director: Philippe Pierlot), B'Rock, Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven / Shunske Sato), and Il Gardellino (Director: Marcel Ponseele). He has performers as an ensemble member in the Amsterdam Baroque Choir (Director: Ton Koopman), Theatre of Early Music (Director: Daniel Taylor), Stichting Bachcantates Tilburg (Director: Arjan van Baest), and Luthers Bach Ensemble in Groningen (Director: Tymen Jan Bronda). In 2021 they were named the first artist-in-residence at Early Music Vancouver.

They have lectured and led workshops at the Universities of Toronto, Manitoba, British Columbia, Alberta (Augustana), Bard College, Festival Montréal Baroque, and the Juilliard School.

Jonathon Adams was featured in Against the Grain Theatre’s 2020 film MESSIAH/COMPLEX, in Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s MEA CULPA with Ballet Vlaanderen, and on Jessica McMann’s most recent album ‘Prairie Dusk’.
