Madison Barrett (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: August 1, 1999 - Centerport, New York, USA

The American mezzo-soprano, Madison Barrett, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice Performance with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Florida (2017-2021); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Class of 2023). She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance with a minor in Germna and linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a recipient of the prestigious Collins Fellowship and Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship in Italian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2023, she was named a finalist in the Patricia Crump Vocal Competition. She has also received a 2nd place award from the Grady-Rayam Sacred Music Competition as well as first place awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) for the Florida division, and a 2nd place award for the Wisconsin division.

Madison Barrett has been described as “charming” (operetta-researchcenter.org) and “lovely-voiced” (Cleveland Classical). She is an active performer in both the operatic and musical theatre fields and has performed with companies including Ohio Light Opera, Middleton Community Orchestra, University of Wisconsin- Madison Opera Theatre, Four Season’s Theatre, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and Middleton Player’s Theatre. Recent role credits include Songbird in Songbird, Margaret in The Light in the Piazza, Lady Jacqueline in Me and My Girl, Ilene Cavanaugh in The Arcadians, Endimione in La Calisto, Smitty in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Flora in No no Nanette, Flora in La Traviata, Nancy in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, The Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, and Hansel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, among others..

Madison Barrett is passionate about working with contemporary composers, and recently premiered the mezzo-soprano version of Juliana Hall’s song cycle Winter Windows during her solo recital at Collins Recital Hall. Ms. Barrett also performed as Clara in excerpts from Bill Banfield’s new opera Edmonia with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and premiered the role of Devorah in Paul Richards’ opera The Golem of Prague with UF Opera Theatre.

Madison Barrett is also an active educator and teaches voice at Beloit College. She is currently based in Madison, Wisconson.
