Heidi Baumgartner (Soprano)

Born: 1998 - Wals, near Salzburg, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Heidi Baumgartner, gained her first stage experience at a young age in the Salzburger Landestheater's production of The Sound of Music. Her subsequent musical career led her from children's and youth choirs to a Bachelor of Music degree in Singing (2017-2021) at the Mozarteum Salzburg in the class of Elisabeth Wilke. During her studies at the Mozarteum, she also received musical inspiration in Baroque singing from Andreas Scholl and in Lied interpretation from Pauliina Tukiainen. This significantly shaped her particular passion for early music and Lied. Since the winter semester of 2021, she has been deepening her studies with a Master of Music degree in Concert Singing (October 2022-July 2024) at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in the vocal class of Christiane Iven and in the Lied interpretation class of Gerold Huber and Christian Gerhaher. She is a prize-winner of the Wettbewerbs "Zukunftsstimmen" of von Elīna Garanča & Karel Mark Chichon (2021) and the Internationalen Haydn Wettbewerbs (2023).

In July 2022, Heidi Baumgartner made her operatic debut as the "young shepherd" in Wagner's Tannhäuser at the Opernfestspielen in Heidenheim under the direction of Marcus R. Bosch in a production by Georg Schmiedleitner.

Heidi Baumgartner is a concert singer and a permanent member of the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Director: Peter Dijkstra) since 2022. She has performed with orchestras such as the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker (Tannhäuser, Young Shepherd), the Münchner Symphoniker (Felix Mendelssohn's Lobgesang-Symphonie, soprano solo, January 2024), the Neue Hofkapelle München (J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, soprano solo, April 2023), and the Münchner Rundfunksorchester. She also occasionally appears as a soloist in concerts with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks: she has sung in Heinrich Schütz' Musical Exequies under the direction of Florian Helgath and the Capella della Torre, and in the Münchner Rundfunksorchester's concert "Johann Sebastian Bach - eine musikalische Hörbiografie under the direction of Peter Dijkstra (December 2022). Most recently, she was heard as a choral soloist in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo in the Herkulessaal under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle (December 2023).
