The American mezzo-soprano and music educator, Sarabeth Bélon, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance from Herb Alpert School of Music at University of California Los Angeles - UCLA (2016); and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Arts Performance from Thornton School of Music at University of Southern California - USC (2021-2013). She has also participated in Apprentice Program at Astoria Music Festival (2013), Miami Music Festival (2016/2018); Opera NEO Summer Festival and Workshop (2017/2018); San Diego Opera (2017/2018). Her voice teachers include: Elizabeth Hynes, Enrique Toral. She recived to the 3rd place at Center Stage Opera Vocal Competition (2017).
Sarabeth Bélon started with her very first operatic role at UCLA, playing the role of l’écureuil in L’enfant et les sortilèges (2013). Soon after, she ventured into many different periods of music with roles in varying tessituras. At the Miami Music Festival, in two different seasons, she performed roles that show the strength of her voice in all tessituras. As Rebecca Nurse in The Crucible (2013), she showed warmth in her voice, especially found in her middle and chest voice, which was praised by critics for a “color and character that is distinctive and memorable.” When she returned to the Miami Music Festival, she performed the role of the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos (2018). The challenges of this role are presented in the high tessitura, but she was praised for her stage presence and “sweet-toned, well-focused voice.” She then reached new heights with the San Diego Opera (January 2018-December 2019) as Madama in Maria de Buenos Aires (2018) and as a Handmaiden in Turandot (2018). She continues to show her tessitura and repertoire versatility by singing the contralto role of Armindo in Partenope (2018) and then performing the role of Marcellina in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at Center Stage Opera (2019). She finished her 2018-2019 season by singing as the 3rd maid in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg at Numi Opera Theater (2019) and finally as Olga in Opera Neo’s production of Eugene Onegin. (2019).
Sarabeth Belón is a known for her expressive artistry, rich tone, and versatility across opera, concert, and oratorio repertoire. She performs regularly with the Los Angeles Opera Chorus (since February 2021), both as an ensemble member and featured soloist, and is frequently engaged as an alto soloist with major choral ensembles. Recent highlights include appearing as alto soloist in Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus and Rossini’s Stabat Mater (June 2025) and as alto soloist in L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the San Diego State University Symphony Orchestra (April 2025). She has also appeared in contemporary works and world premieres, bridging traditional and modern repertoire with equal skill and passion. Her operatic experience spans both classic and modern repertoire, including George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Arnold Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, and a wide range of contemporary vocal works. Her performances are praised for their technical precision, emotional depth, and musical sensitivity, engaging audiences across Southern California and beyond.
A dedicated educator, Sarabeth Sarabeth Belón serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Musical Theatre Department at USC’s School of Dramatic Arts (since December 2023), where she teaches voice using a science-informed, technique-driven approach that helps students build sustainable, versatile voices. She also maintains a thriving private studio (since June 2016), offering virtual and in-person lessons for singers at all levels, empowering students to find their unique sound while developing strong vocal technique. |
