Coert van den Berg (Bass-Baritone)

Born: June 13, 1969 - De Bilt, the Netherlands

The Dutch bass-baritone, Coert van den Berg, obtained his Master's degree at the Conservatorium ArteZ (1998-2003), after training at the Middelbare Hotelschool Wageningen (1992) and HEAO Utrecht (1992-1995). There he studied with Felix Schoonenboom and from the 4th academic year with Cora Canne Meijer. After graduating, he was coached for a year by Alison Pearce (Royal Academy of Music, London). He is currently taking lessons with Livio Gabrieli. During his training he already attended several master-classes with Charlotte Margiono, Jard van Nes, Julia Hamari (Vienna) and the International Baroque Music Course in Casa Mateus, Portugal.

Coert van den Berg has been active as a freelance singer since September 2003. As an oratorio soloist, he has sung, among other things, J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244), St John Passion (BWV 245), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248); George Frideric Handel's Messiah; Haydn's Schöpfung; W.A. Mozart's s Requiem and Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle. He also sang in several opera performances including Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Osmin in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail. He collaborated on KamerOperaProject, a production based on three short American operas. He had the role of host in Introductions and Goodbeyes by the American composer Lukas Foss. He also performed the role of Caronte in Monteverdi's Orfeo, performed by Theater Transparant in, among others, the Vlaamse Opera Gent. He was also Bartolo in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. In the coming months, various lieder recitals will also be on the program, including Franz Schubert's Winterreise.

Coert van den Berg is associated with the Groot Omroepkoor and has also sung with De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss; since September 2001), and PA'dam (Director: Maria van Nieukerken). He currently lives in Leusden, the Netherlands.
