The German bass-baritone Vincent Berger, received as a member of the Thomanerchor Leipzig (2008-2017) comprehensive musical training and singing lessons from former Thomaskantor Gotthold Schwarz and Dirk Schmidt. He was awarded the Karl-Straube-Legat from the Stiftung Thomanerchor for his special artistic achievements. After completing his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice & Opera with Dirk Schmidt at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ in Leipzig (2017-February 2022), he is currently studying for his Master of Music degree with Frans Fiselier at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag. Master-classes with Lionel Meunier, Ton Koopman, Philippe Herreweghe and Peter Kooij provide important inspiration for his work.
Vincent Berger can now be seen regularly as a soloist in cantatas, oratorios and passions. The focus of his musical interest is the musical tradition of the 17th and 18th centuries. Based on this, his concert repertoire ranges from works of the Renaissance to world premieres of many important bass and baritone roles from the Classical, Romantic and 20th century periods. He is particularly interested in the (re-)discovery and performance of lesser-known works. At the Theater Rudolstadt he made his opera debut with the Thüringer Symphoniker as Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. His interpretation of Dovid in the world premiere of the Yiddish opera Bas-Sheve by Henech Kon as part of the 'Yiddish Summer Weimar' with performances in Paris, Weimar and Łódź was also positively commented on.
In addition to his solo work, Vincent Berger places particular emphasis on ensemble singing. He works with Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), Musica Gloria (Directors: Beniamino Paganini & Nele Vertommen), ChorWerk Ruhr (Director: Florian Helgath), Collegium Vocale Leipzig (Director: Michael Schönheit), Bach Consort Leipzig (Director: Gotthold Schwarz) and his vocal sextet Voicemade and the early music ensemble La protezione della musica, among others. He is a fellow of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging's Young Talent Programme in the concert seasons 2024-2025 and 2025-2026.
In addition to his musical work, Vincent Berger is studying International Studies at Universität Leiden. Vincent Berger is a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. |
