The American conductor, baritone, and educator, Jack Bertrand, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan (2007-2013), where he developed a love of conducting and vocal music. He obtained his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University (2020-2022). Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Jack Bertrand’s work bridges education, performance, and scholarship, emphasizing creativity and connection through the arts. A passionate traveler, he has been fortunate to conduct and perform across the USA, Mexico, France, and Australia. Since moving to Bakersfield, he has performed as a clarinetist, bassoonist, and baritone vocalist in various community and collegiate ensembles. A board member of Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana, he has appeared with the ensemble as a soloist in George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus and Messiah and Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri. Recent performances include the Five Cities Baroque Festival and Parkland College Theatre’s productions of The Wedding Singer and White Christmas.
Jack Bertrand teaches Theatre Arts at Edison Middle School. He is currently the Director of Vocal Music at North High School and serves the Kern County Music Educators Association as 1st Vice President. He currently lives in Urbana, Illinois. |
