Thomas Bocchi (Tenor)

Born: 1994 - USA

The American tenor, Thomas Leo Bocchi, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance from Whitworth University in in Spokane, Washington (2017); his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance & Pedagogy from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he is currently pursuing a D.M.A, studying under the tutelage of Matthew Chellis and Nicholas Perna, and serves as a graduate teaching assistant and accompanist.

Thomas Bocchi is a versatile performing artist, equally versed in opera, concert/oratorio, musical theatre, and art song. Upcoming engagements include the soloist in Amuse Bouche with Art Song Colorado, and a full season with Colorado Bach Ensemble. Oratorio engagements include W.A. Mozart’s C Minor Mass, Tippett’s A Child of Our Time (his professional oratorio debut, Gonzaga University), Ralph Vaughan Williams's Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. He performs regularly with Colorado Bach Ensemble as soloist/chorus member (J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232 and Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, numerous cantatas) and was a finalist in their Young Artist Competition. He specializes in the song repertoire, particularly the works of Schubert, Robert Schumann, and Benjamin Britten, and commonly features underrepresented composers such as Violet Archer, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Robert Owens, and Muriel Herbert.

Opera credits include the lead role of John Gay in Gene Scheer’s new opera Polly Peachum with CUNOW, Miles in Proving Up, Joe in Robert Paterson’s Companion, Lesbus in G.F. Handel's Agrippina, the Witch in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel & Gretel (with Eklund Opera), Basilio/Curzio in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (with Eklund Opera) and Suitor/Chorus in Jake Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life! (with Eklund Opera). He has premiered multiple operas by composer Ben Morris (The Fall of Man, Perspective) as well as song cycles. Additional past roles include Acis in Acis and Galatea, Marius in Les Misérables, The Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz, Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone, and Ewart Dunlop in The Music Man.

Thomas Bocchi is also an aspiring composer, whose works are performed often on the recitals of his colleagues.
