The American tenor, Michael Calmés, has achieved a distinguished record of performances in concerts, recitals, oratorio, and opera. He made his American debut with the Boston Lyric Opera Company in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and made his European debut in the J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243 at the Rijeka Festival in Venice.
Michael Calmés has been a soloist with orchestras, choruses, and ensembles in the USA, Austria, Belgium, China, England, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. He was the only classical singer invited to participate in the international German music festival, Nachbar Amerika, and his concerts are repeatedly praised for the beauty, expressiveness, and emotional power of his singing. Locally, he has been a soloist with Boston Cecilia, Cantata Singers, Handel & Haydn Society, Masterwork Chorale, Boston Aria Guild, and Boston Lyric Opera. He is a founder of the Boston Aria Guild and a member of the noted chamber music ensemble, Janus 21.
