The Camerata of the 18th Century was formed from members of the Orchestra of the 18th Century (Director: Frans Brüggen) in 1991. Like the orchestra, the camerata is based in Amsterdam. Internationally renowned specialists in the field of 18th-century music have come together under the direction of the flautist Konrad Hünteler to perform instrumental music for small-to-medium ensembles. Employment of historical instruments and orientation to historical performance practice form the basis of the ensemble’s work and together serve to reproduce the music of the period in its original vibrancy and great expressive variety - qualities which have been obscured by musical traditions emanating from the nineteenth-century. |
