José Antonio Cecilia (Bass)

Born: Elche (Alicante), Spain

The Spanish bass, José Antonio Cecilia, has extensive training in singing, orthophony, diction and vocal technique. He has a Diploma in Natura Imposta and Fonoaudiología by the Colegio de Fonoaudiólogos de Chile AG. With the highest marks. He was awarded the Extraordinary Singing Prize of the European Academy in Rome and a pupil of the mezzo-soprano Elisabetta Fiorillo. He also trained in dubbing and advertising locution with Claudio Rodríguez at the AMstudios school in Madrid. He holds the title of Professional Singing from the Conservatorio of Elche and is certified by the prestigious Vox Natura school in Rome for speech training and rehabilitation of vocal injuries. He has taken vocal improvement courses with teachers such as Elena Obraztsova, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Carlos Chausson, Ana Luisa Chova, Enedina LLoris, Carmen Bustamante, Miguel Zanetti.

José Antonio Cecilia has worked with the Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, Coro del Teatro de la Zarzuela, Coro Nacional de España y Coro de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid. As a soloist, he has sung in the main theaters in Spain and Italy, among which the Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Auditorio Nacional de España, Teatro Romea in Murcia, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, Teatro San Carlos in Naples, Teatro Dell'Opera in Rome, Sfiristerio in Macerata.

José Antonio Cecilia has worked under the baton of important conductor, including Lorin Maazel in El matillo de San Sebastian, Lionel Bringuiel in the role of Zúñiga in Georges Bizet's opera Carmen, Jordi Savall in the opera Il fernace. He has played the role of Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Colline in La Boheme. In an oratorio The Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Symphony No. 9 by L.v. Beethoven, The Creation by J. Haydn, Requiem by W.A. Mozart, Verdi and Gabriel Fauré, Petite messe solennelle by Rossini and various J.S. Bach cantatas. In zarzuela he has performed the roles of Carrasquilla in Don Gil de Alcalá, Simpson in La tabernera del Puerto, Manacor in El niño judío. He has shared stage with singers such as Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Renato Brusón, José Cura, Neil Shicoff, etc.

José Antonio Cecilia is also a voice therapist at the private clinic of María Candelaria Fernández and Dr. Rafael Botí in Elda and Alcoy. Since 2009 at the Medialtabix clinic in Elche and at the 9 de Octubre clinic in Almoradí (Alicante). He has been a speaker at CEFIRE for courses and conferences on dysphonia, Coach of actors in diction and voice projection, and is currently Professor of singing at the Escuela de Música de Yecla OF Asociación Amigos de la Música de Yecla.
