The Canadian soprano, Megan Chartrand, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alberta (2010), where she studied with Jolaine Kerley. She graduated with a Masters of Music specializing in early music, oratorio and chamber ensemble performance from the Yale University Institute of Sacred Music and Yale School of Music (2013) studying with James Taylor.
Megan Chartrand now pursues an active performance career based in New York City. Praised for her “light, fleet soprano” voice and “soaring, diamantine high notes” (Opera News), she feels equally at home singing early music, art song, chamber music and concert repertoire.
Notable solo performances include Dalila in George Frideric Handel's Samson with the American Classical Orchestra (2014) and W.A. Mozart's Requiem with True Concord (2015, both in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Megan Chartrand has also sung W.A. Mozart's Requiem with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale alongside Susan Graham (2014); J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) (2014) and St. John Passions (BWV 245) at the Staunton Music Festival; G.F. Handel's Crudel Tiranno Amor with The Alberta Baroque Ensemble; Kurt Weil's Seven Deadly Sins (2015) and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 (2016) at the Kuhmo Chamber music festival in Finland, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass with the Keene Chorale (2015); W.A. Mozart's Mass in C Minor with the Manchester Symphony Orchestra, and W.A. Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate with Tucson's St Andrew's Bach Society (2016). Exciting upcoming performances include G.F. Handel's Messiah with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Clerambault's Médée with the American Classical Orchestra, and G.F. Handel's Ode to Saint Cecilia at the Staunton Music Festival.
Megan sings frequently with many of the most prestigious ensembles in North America, including The Trinity Wall Street Choir (Director: Julian Wachner; since 2014), The Clarion Music Society (Director: Steven Fox; since 2014), The American Classical Orchestra, True Concord (Director: Eric Holtan; since 2015), The Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Yale Choral Artists (Director: Jeffrey Douma; since 2014), Seraphic Fire (Director: Patrick Dupré Quigley; since 2013), Blue Heron and Ensemble Origo.
