Junhan Choi (Baritone)

Born: Ulsan, South Korea

The Korean baritone, Junhan Choi, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Kyungwon University in Seongnam, South Korea (2010); his Music degree in Vocal Performance (2014) and a his Graduate Diploma in Opera Studies (2016) with a Presidential Scholarship from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a prize-winner in many international competitions, such as the 54th Viñas International Voice Competition (2017, Spain/Three Extraordinary Prizes - Mercedes Viñas, Victoria de los Ángeles, Franz Schubert), the Berliner International Music Competition Germany (2018, Golden Medal), Talents of the World International Voice Competition (2017, 1st Place), MassOpera’s Vocal Competition (2017, 1st Place), Rochester International Vocal Competition (2017) and St. Botolph Emerging Artist Grant for excellence in music (2016).

Praised for his “splendid baritone voice, rich and rounded”, Junhan Choi is an active opera, oratorio and concert singer. In the 2023-2024 season, engagements included his role Registrar & Commissioner in Madama Butterfly (2023), role Dandini(cover) in La Cenerentola (2023) and Fourth Stone in Eurydice (2024) with Boston Lyric Opera as a second year of Jane and Steven Akin Emerging Artist.

Past operatic credits include title roles in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (2018, 2019), Gianni Schicchi, the Count in W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Stainer’s The Crucifixion, Wood’s St. Mark Passion and Ramirez’s Navidad Nuestra. He currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts
