The American tenor, Opal Clyburn-Miller, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from St. Mary's College of Maryland (Class of 2020). He also studied American Contemporary Music at UMBC - University Of Maryland, Baltimore County (Class of 2021). Currently he studies for his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Peabody Conservatory (since August 2023). He studies with American soprano Tony Arnold, coach with Baroque faculty, and perform in the vocal ensembles of Dr. Beth Willer. With Dr. Willer, he has performed both early and modern works: Kaija Saariaho’s Nuits Adieux, David Lang’s the little match girl passion, and Okeghem’s Alma Redemptoris Mater.
Opal Clyburn-Miller is an active ensemble singer and soloist in the Washington, D.C. area, having appeared in concert with The Thirteen, the Washington Bach Consort (Director: J. Reilly Lewis), and the Washington National Cathedral Choir. He has been a featured soloist with the Handel Choir of Baltimore (George Frideric Handel's Messiah), Baltimore Choral Arts Society (Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb), and Bach in Baltimore (Director: T. Herbert Dimmock; J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 7 Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam). He has also appeared in international festivals: Aspen Music Festival’s Professional Choral Institute with Seraphic Fire (Director: Patrick Dupré Quigley), Bachakademie Stuttgart, and Spoleto Festival USA.
Passionate about oratorio literature and Baroque performance practices, Opal Clyburn-Miller has attended the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, the American Bach Soloists Academy, and Bach Akademie Charlotte. In the 2025-2026 season, he has been named a VOCES8 US Scholar, and will perform with VOCES8 in February 2026. |
