The chamber orchestra Concertino Basel developed from an ad hoc ensemble for accompaniment of choir and soloist concerts. In 1988 it was established by its musicians as more independent, administering orchestra. Beside its principal conductor Joachim Krause, guest conductors are invited annually to rehearse and conduct one of the subscription concerts. The Concertino Basel understands itself as an expressed chamber orchestra with up to 35 musicians. In the sixteen years of its existence it created itself a good name as modern, open orchestra, with much sense for unusual, new sounds. The music of the 20th Century is one of their emphasis, as their programmes show, and to the co-operation at the Henze-Festival of the Theater Basel with a matinee concert and in theatre production of Der Idiot by Hans Werner Henze. The connection of the Basler Bach-Chor and Concertino Basel lasts now already 17 years and has led to an intensive, mutually beneficial and extremely satisfying co-operation. |
