Marisa Curcio (Soprano)

Born: June 26, 1995 - Ballston, New York, USA

The American soprano, church musician, and music teacher, Marisa Curcio, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Music (2014-2017) and her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education (2013-2018), both from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where she studied voice with Tom Faracco and sang with Westminster Schola Cantorum (Director: James Jordan), Westminster Choir (2015-2017), Westminster Kantorei (2014-2018; Director: Amanda Quist), and Westminster Symphonic Choir. She sang two USA tours, two European tours, performed as part of the choir-inresidence at the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina, and can be heard on Westminster Kantorei’s first and newest album, "Lumina". She also sang at Trinity Episcopal Church in Princeton, New Jersey, under the direction of Tom Whittemore. During her studies, she regularly appeared with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra in addition to both national and international tours.

Marisa Curcio was a part of the Capital District Youth Chorale from seventh through twelfth grade. They performed in several concerts with area orchestras, most notably the Albany Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble routinely sang with Albany Pro Musica (APM), whom she also sang with in high school. With this choir, she sang masterworks such as J.S. Bach’s Magnificat in D major BWV 243, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, and John Corigliano's Fern Hill, and also performed with Andrea Bocelli in June 2013. She was in a production of George Frideric Handel’s opera Semele in May 2012 and G.F. Handel's Messiah in December 2012 with Music in the Somerset Hills directed by Stephen Sands.

Marisa Curcio has performed as a soloist with The Princeton Festival, the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, and at the Boston Early Music Festival with members of the Juilliard415 orchestra. Recent work as a soloist includes G.F. Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach’s Cantata 47 and Missa brevis in G major BWV 236, Antonio Vivaldi's Magnificat, and as “Voice I” in Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians. She finds herself at home performing in small ensembles that specialize in early music and frequently sings in churches and concert halls across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She is a member of St. James’ Church’s Compostela Choir and appears regularly (since 2022) with the group Convoco, a Philadelphia/New York City-based ensemble that specializes in early and modern music. She is also Soprano at Philadelphia Symphonic Chorus (since December 2017).

Also a liturgical musician, Marisa Curcio has been Staff Singer and Associate for Communications at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, Chestnut Hill, , Pennsylvania (September 2018-February 2022); Soprano (since September 2021) and Director of Communications (since February 2022) at St. James' Church, Manhattan; Soprano/Section leader at The Episcopal Church at Princeton (since September 2015).

In the education field, Marisa Curcio has been Long-Term Leave Replacement at Millburn Township Public Schools (January-April 2019); Substitute Teacher at Bernardsville Middle School, NAEW Jew Jersey (January 2018-June 2019); Voice/Piano/Strings instructor at Allegra School of Music & Arts in Hillsborough, New Jersey (August 2018-May 2023).

Marisa Curcio is currently working on a recording project with pianist, Mark Loria, and producer/composer, Malcolm Bruno. She greatly anticipates her return this summer to the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir and The Princeton Festival Baroque Chorus, and she looks forward to joining the roster at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. When she is not performing, she enjoys sightreading obscure 16th-century madrigals and motets, researching the life and output of Heinrich Schütz and his contemporaries, and roasting coffee beans at home.
