Anouk Defontenay (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Montpellier, France

The French mezzo-sorano, Anouk Defontenay, trained in the adult choir of the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris in the class of Rosa Domínguez (September 2016-June 2021) and in the Pôle Lyrique d’Excellence Cécile de Boever (September 2020-July 2021). She is a 2023 laureate of the Fonds Tutti and performed with Clémentine Margaine at the Amphitheater of the Opéra Bastille in Paris. She is also a laureate of the Royaumont Foundation.

On stage Anouk Defontenay sang 3. Dame in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at Royaumont Festival, Mère Jeanne in Francis Poulenc's Les Dialogues des Carmélites at Massy Opéra (May 2018), la Nymphe des Eaux and la Bergère Héroïque in Lully's Armide by at Opéra Royal de Versailles and Opéra de Dijon, L'Enfant in M. Ravel's L’Enfant et les sortilèges at Musica Nigella Festival (May 2024) and Juditha in Antonio Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans in Nice.

Anouk Defontenay is a very active concert performer with recent performances including Maurice Duruflé's Requiem (Salle Gaveau), J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 (in Clermont-Ferrand and Paris), C. Monteverdi's Salve Morale (Krakow), Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater (Massy, Montmin)….

Anouk Defontenay regularly collaborates with the Ensemble Pygmalion (since November 2021, Director: Raphaël Pichon), La Poème Harmonique (since April 2023, Director: Vincent Dumestre), Les Paladins (since April 2019, Director: Jérôme Correas), Aïgal Ensemble (since July 2021), Ensemble Irini (since June 2023).

Upcoming performance: J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232 (Ensemble Vide, February 2025), Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 48 at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris (Quatour, February 2025) and Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, 2nd Witch in H. Purcell's Dido & Aenas at Festival de la Chaise Dieu and in Bruxelles (La Poème Harmonique, April 2025), Naïade, Bergère Héroïque in Lully's Armide at Teatro Real de Madrid, Philharmonie de Paris, Théâtre du Capitole…
