Suzanne Dowaliby (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: September 27, 1965 - New York City, New York, USA

The American Musical actress, mezzo-soprano singer and vocal coach, Suzanne Dowaliby, grew up in New York and Norfolk, Virginia. Her stage career began at the age of 3. She received dance training from Gene Hammett (Norfolk Civic Ballet, Norfolk, Virginia), Romana Krysanovska (School of American Ballet, New York), June Eve Story (HB Studio, New York), and Gwen Spear Meng (Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia); acting training from Michael Tick (New York University, New York) and Rochelle Oliver (HB Studio, New York); and vocal training from Gudrun Bär (Saarbrücken), Ingrid Oloffson (Vienna), and Lucille Liverman (New England Conservatory, Boston, Massachusetts).

Since her Cats tour in the 1990s, Suzanne Dowaliby has lived in Saarbrücken, Germany. Here she works as a singer, instructor at musical and singing workshops, as the head of the musical group at various schools, and teaches singing to students. Among other projects, she staged the musical comedy Winnifred - Once Upon a Mattress in 2006 with the musical group of the Gymnasium am Schloss (GaS) Saarbrücken in collaboration with the Musikhochschule Saar and her long-time friend Matthias Ernst.

From 2007 to 2008, Suzanne Dowaliby again staged the tap dance musical Anything Goes by Cole Porter with the musical group of the GaS Saarbrücken. Matthias Ernst again served as musical director. The premiere took place on June 23, 2008, in the GaS auditorium in Saarbrücken. Starting in the fall of 2008, the same crew began rehearsals and preparations for the production of the musical Godspell by Stephen Schwartz. The premiere took place on March 27, 2009.

After several members of the group left school for their final exams or other reasons, Suzanne Dowaliby called for a new casting call for a new musical crew. With this crew, she staged Stephen Schwartz's Broadway musical Pippin for the 2010 season.
