The Dutch baritone, Berend Eijkhout, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree (2016) at the Koninklijk Conservatorium (Royal Conservatoire) of The Hague (September 2011-July 2016), where he studied classical singing with Frans Fiselier and Gerda van Zelm. He now studies with Nadine Secunde, Peter Lockwood, and Frans Fiselier.
As a concert soloist, Berend Eijkhout performed J.S. Bach’s major works (including Mass in B minor BWV 232 with Ton Koopman), George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, and Haydn’s Creation (with Orkest van de Achttiende eeuw and Marcus Creed), Rossini’s Messa di Gloria and Petite Messe Solennelle, Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, and the Requiems by W.A. Mozart, Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé.
Opera roles he sang include Count (W.A. Mozart's Nozze di Figaro), Papageno (both in shortened versions with B.O.O.M!, the Netherlands), Figaro (Rossini - Opéra Mosset, France), and in concert version: Plutone (l’Orfeo, Monteverdi), Tempo (Ulisse, Monteverdi) and Apollon & Hérault (Alceste, Gluck). He created the roles of Jup (Chiel Meijering, Who’s afraid or Orfeo?, 2016) and Jean (Jan Peter de Graaf, All Rise!, 2016).
Other notable recent performances include the theatrical recital he made together with accordeonist Sofie de Klerk for the Grachtenfestival 2018, the baritone solo in Die Sieben Todsünden by Kurt Weill, with the Residentie Orkest Den Haag under Antony Hermus, and a demanding song cycle for baritone a cappella, The End by Jacques Bank. |
