The Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen was founded on August 1, 2012 by the merger of two regional theater and city orchestras. Since then, the new orchestra has included 79 musicians from the Neuen Elbland Philharmonie and the former Orchester der Landesbühnen Sachsen. In 2013, Carola Gotthardt was appointed Managing Director. In the summer of 2017, Ekkehard Klemm was appointed Chief Conductor of the orchestra.
Today the Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen performs as an orchestra of the cultural area Meissen - Saxon Switzerland - Eastern Ore Mountains in the theatres, town halls, churches and cultural centers around the state capital Dresden. Traditional venues for the orchestra are the Stadthalle “stern” Riesa, Marienkirche in Pirna, Theater Meißen and the headquarters of the Landesbühnen Sachsen in Radebeul. Guest performances regularly take the orchestra to the Dresdner Musikfestspielen, to the Konzertsaal in Kulturpalast and to the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
The core of the program with more than 100 concerts per year are entitled series with demanding or entertaining symphony. Another part of the orchestra's schedule is participation in the music theater productions of the Landesbühnen Sachsen in Radebeul and throughout Saxony. The musicians play a wide-ranging repertoire, ranging from musicals to opera and operetta to rarities from Baroque opera and modern chamber opera. There is also an extensive range of student and chamber music concerts, but also many ambitious school projects such as "Musik im Klassenzimmer" or the children's dance project "Breakdance meets Classic". In addition, the orchestra accompanies the church choirs of the region in numerous choral symphonic projects and oratorio performances. |
