Marcus Elsäßer (Tenor)

Born: Berlin, Germany

Marcus Elsäßer is a tenor of German-Indian origin. He grew up in Berlin and was a long-time member of the Berlin Boy's Choir, during which time he performed roles such as First Boy in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Charlie Hildebrandt in Kurt Weill's Broadway opera Street Scene.

He has special interest in oratorio repertoire ranging from Renaissance to contemporary and has performed George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Haydn's The Creation, W.A. Mozart' Requiem and L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, amongst others. He has performed with renowned ensembles, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Barockorchester L'arpa festante, La Banda and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart. Performance engagements have taken him to the Kammeroper Konstanz, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Staatstheater Wiesbaden (Maifestspiele 2016) and the Donaueschingen Festival of contemporary music.

His operatic repertoire includes Don Basilio in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Monostatos in W.A. Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte, Podesta in W.A. Mozart's La finta giardiniera and the Gingerbread Witch in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel.
