Elise van Es (Soprano)

Born: November 2, 1991 - Delft, the Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Elise van Es, studied Classical Singing with Roberta Alexander at Codarts University of Arts in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2009-2013). She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Singing (2013-2015), and her Master of Arts degree in Lied & Oratorio with distinction (2015-June 2017) from the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, where she studied with Andreas Macco and Thérèse Lindquist. She has also attended master-classes with Barbara Bonney, Michèle Crider, Martha Sharp, Wolfgang Holzmair and Hanna Schwarz. She is currently coached by Katherine Goeldner.

Elise van Es has been active as a freelance singer since September 2017. As a soloist, she has been heard as Belinda in H. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and as an oratorio soloist in J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Lukas-Passion BWV 246, C. Orff's Carmina Burana, Haydn's Schöpfung, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, Peri in Robert Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri, G. Rossini's Stabat Mater and Petite messe solennelle, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Camille Saint-Saëns's Oratorio de Noël, and Johannes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem.

Elise van Es is a passionate choir singer and sings with ensembles such as the Rotterdam Symphony Chorus, the Laurens Collegium Rottredam (since September 2017; Director: Wiecher Mandemaker), Groot Omroepkoor (AKA Dutch Radio Choir; since June 2015; Since 2021, a permanent member as a first soprano), Nederlands Kamerkoor (since March 2019; Director: Peter Dijkstra), Amsterdam Baroque Choir (Director: Ton Koopman). She was a member of the Salzburger Bachchor for many years, with which she made her debut as a soloist in March 2014 at the Musikverein in Vienna and was also regularly seen and heard at the Salzburg Festival. She also sang in the Collegium Vocale Salzburg with which she made her solo debut at the Brucknerhaus in Linz. She enjoyed working for several seasons with the Collegium Vocale Gent (since September 2018; Director: Philippe Herreweghe), and the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor.

As a chorister, Elise van Es has sung a number of solos and has had the opportunity to work with conductors such as Hansjörg Albrecht, Riccardo Chailly, Peter Dijkstra, Valery Gergiev, Sascha Goetzel, Pablo Heras-Casado, Philippe Herreweghe, Reinbert de Leeuw, Marc Minkowski, Riccardo Muti, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Andrés Orozco-Estrada and Jos Vermunt. She has toured as a soloist in Germany, France, Austria, Greece, China, Poland, and Ireland. She has sung several world premieres of Greek music in the Netherlands. In April 2023 she made her solo debut at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
