The Brazilian mezzo-soprano, Solange Ferreira, began her musical studies on the piano at the Conservatório Musical de Mauá with Guerino Volpi, Priscilla Jorge, and Iaponira de Albuquerque. At the Academia de Ritmo e Dança Janina she studied singing with Jan Szot and piano with Tarik Dib, and also took private singing and choral conducting lessons with Paulo Galvão. In 2000, she entered the Universidade Livre de Música, now EMESP Tom Jobim, where she attended the classical singing class of Marcos Thadeu, conductor of the Coro Acadêmico da Osesp. In 2016, she was part of the last class of the Early Music Workshop with Nicolau de Figueiredo at the Escola Municipal de Música de São Paulo; after his death, she continued her studies with Marília Vargas and Juliano Buosi. She took vocal training classes with mezzo-soprano Lenice Prioli, singer and speech therapist Juvenal de Moura, and baritone Francisco Campos. Currently, she studies with singer Elayne Caser and is about to complete her degree in music from Faculdade Claretiano.
Solange Ferreira was a section leader with UNIOPERA - Associação Coral da Cidade de São Paulo and with the Coro Jovem Sinfônico de São José dos Campos, of the Fundação Cultural Cassiano Ricardo. A member of the Coral Jovem do Estado de São Paulo, where she performed under the direction of José Ferraz de Toledo, she soloed with the group in the works Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria RV 589 in 2007, and J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 in 2012. She also soloed in Heitor Villa-Lobos' Magnificat Alleluia W553 in 2022 with the Coro da Cidade de Santo André and in André da Silva Gomes's Missa Concertada para a Noite de Natal in 2019 with the São Paulo Schola Cantorum. In 2017, she participated in three showcases of the vocal quartet of the Grupo de Pesquisa em Música da Renascença e Contemporânea (GReCo) and, in 2019, sang with the group's chamber orchestra at the Festival de Campos do Jordão. As a soloist, his interpretations of Franz Liszt's Via Crucis S. 53 in 2005 with the Coral da Cidade de São Paulo, and A. Vivaldi's Gloria RV 589 in 2007 with the Coro Jovem do Estado de São Paulo, stand out. She joined the Coro da Osesp in March 2006. She performed with them F. Mignone's Mass No. 2 in F minor and Felix Mendelssohn's Te Deum in 2015, H. Villa-Lobos' Vidapura - Missa-Oratorio in 2016, Gioachino Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle in 2018, and A. Vivaldi's Gloria in D major RV 589 in 2023.
In 2006, Solange Ferreira attended the Semana da Música de Ouro Branco, in 2007 the Oficina de Música de Curitiba, in 2010 the Festival de Música de Ourinhos, and in 2018 and 2019 the Festival Música nas Montanhas in Poços de Caldas. At these events, she performed in recitals and sang in master-classes with the celebrated Brazilian soprano Neyde Thomas and the baritone Francisco Campos.
Solange Ferreira collaborated with the Coro da Osesp on the albums "Canções do Brasil" (Biscoito Fino, 2010) and "Aylton Escobar: Obras para Coro" (Selo Digital Osesp, 2013), both conducted by Naomi Munakata; "José Maurício 250" (Selo Digital Osesp, 2017), under the direction of Valentina Peleggi and Carlos Alberto Figueiredo; "H. Villa-Lobos: Choral Transcriptions" (Naxos, 2019), under the baton of Valentina Peleggi; and "Rossini: Petite Messe Solenelle" (Selo Digital Osesp, 2023), under the direction of Thomas Blunt. She also participated in the ambitious 4-CD project "Toda Semana: Música e Literatura na Semana de Arte Moderna" (Selo SESC SP, 2022).
Of the many memories with the Coro da Osesp, Solange Ferreira recalls with emotion the two debut concerts of Osesp at Carnegie Hall, on October 14 and 15, 2022, when, under the baton of Marin Alsop, they presented a repertoire of varied works and the show "Floresta Villa-Lobos," a tribute to Brazilian culture and nature in 75 minutes of uninterrupted music with an immersive video showcasing the richness of Brazilian flora and fauna.
Before falling in love with music, during her adolescence, Solange Ferreira was a dedicated handball player, her first great passion.
