The Spanish tenor, Joan Francesc Folqué, began studying singing with the soprano Marta Mathéu, combining it with his humanities degree. Graduated in classical and contemporary singing performance from the ESMUC with the mezzo-soprano Mireia Pintó, he later graduated cum laude with a Master’s degree in Opera from the Universität für darstellende Kunst in Vienna with the tenor Ramón Vargas.
Joan Francesc Folqué has worked in major theaters and concert halls in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain, under the baton of great conductors, such as Marc Minkowski, Pinchas Steinberg, Erwin Ortner, Francesco Lanzillotta, Federico Maria Sardelli or Salvador Mas, among others.
His repertoire includes opera to oratorio, from the Renaissance to 20th century music; George Frideric Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232, Robert Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri and Pablo Casals' El pessebre should be highlighted as oratorios, and from the opera repertoire W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte and La finta giardiniera, Gassman's Gli uccellatori, Rossini's Il turco in Italia and Prokófiev's Le joueur. He is well-regarded for his work with historical performance ensembles, collaborating regularly with groups such as La Grande Chapelle, Capella Leopoldina, and Vespres d'Arnadí. He is also an alumnus of the Fundación Salvat Beca Bach program. He currently lives in Vienna, Austria. |
