Laia Frigolé (Soprano)

Born: Girona, Catalonia, Spain

The Spanish soprano, Laia Frigolé, read Catalan Philology at the University of Girona, and went on to study music theory and piano at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona and CNR Perpignan. She specialised in Cant Històric at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in 2009, where she was taught by Martha Almajano. She has been studying under mezzo-soprano Mireia Pintó since then. In 2007 and 2008, she was awarded a scholarship by the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation. In 2014, she was awarded a "Bach Prize" by Bach Zum Mitsingen. She has participated in master-classes with singers who specialise in early music, such as Nancy Argenta, Lynne Dawson, Kurt Widmer, Gerd Türk, Carlos Mena and Rosa Domínguez. She has also taken part in several European internship programmes: l’Académie Concert d’Ambronay, the Géneration Baroque and the Academy for Professional Training, Research and Musical Performance (with Jordi Savall).

Laia Frigolé was a member of the choir Vozes Al Ayre Español and has recorded two albums with Le Choeur de Chambre de Namur (Director: Leonardo García Alarcón) for Ambronay Éditions (2010: Diapason d'Or, and 2012).

As a soloist, Laia Frigolé has sung under the direction of Leonardo García-Alarcón, Luca Pianca, Lorenzo Coppola, Alfredo Bernardini, Jean Tubéry, Martin Gester, Dani Espasa, Juan de la Rubia, Xavier Puig, Rubén Gimeno, Manel Valdivieso and Josep Vila Jover among others, and consequently, has performed all over Spain and in the most prestigious early music festivals in Europe. She has performed as a soloist with a lot of orchestras: L'Incontro Fortunato, OSV, OCIM, Vespres d'Arnadí, Acadèmia 1750, Orquestra de Girona, Spira Mirabilis, Camera Musicae... She collaborates regularly as a soloist with several medieval and baroque music ensembles such as Ensemble Méridien, Canto Coronato, La Grande Chapelle, La Caravaggia and Mos Azimans.In 2014, Laia Frigolé opened the Torroella de Montgrí’s Festival with the orchestra Acadèmia 1750 (Director: Alfredo Bernardini), singing Cantata BWV 210 of J.S. Bach and in 2015 she sang "Cantatas for the ascension day" by J.S. Bach (Director: Josep Vila Jover). In opera, she sang Belinda in H. Purcell's Dido& Aeneas and Serpina in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona. She played a part in the premiere of Josafat, by composer Marc Timón and she sang in Tandy by Angélica Liddell.In addition to her live performances, Laia Frigolé has made a number of recordings: ‘Victoria de los Ángeles canta a Nin’ (2009), ‘Tomàs Milans Godayol - Música religiosa’ (Musiepoca, 2012), ‘A German Soul’ (Brilliant Classics, 2014), ‘En un miralh’ (2015), among others. She currently lives in Girona, Catalonia, Spain.
