The Austrian choral conductor, Helmut [Helmuth] Emil Froschauer, received his musical education in the Wiener Sängerknaben and studierd at the Wiener Musikakademie in the subjects piano, horn, composition and conducting.
From 1953 to 1965 Helmut Froschauer directed one of the choirs of the Wiener Sängerknaben. As Kapellmeister he directed this ensemble on tours throughout the world. At the same time, in the early 1960's he was musical director of the Walt Disney Productions in Vienna where he supervised several music films with the Wiener Symphoniker. From 1968 to 1991, he was successively - and for many years also simultaneously - solo répétiteur and choir director at the Wiener Staatsoper as well as choir director of the Singvereins der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, the Bregenz and the Salzburg Festival in personal union. As a close associate of Herbert von Karajan, he was involved in the preparation of numerous concerts, recordings and television recordings at the Salzburg Festival, the Berlin and Wiener Festwochen.
Helmut Froschauer was with Westdeutscher Rundfunk since 1992, first as choir director, then from 1997-19999 to 2003 as chief conductor of the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln, where he was honorary conductor. Froschauer also conducted with two other colleagues for many years, the Sunday masses in the Vienna Hofburgkapelle in which also participate in the Boys Choir.
