Diego Galicia Súarez (Counter-tenor)

Born: August 22, 1995 - Mexico City, Mexico

The Mexican counter-tenor, Diego Galicia Suárez, received in 2018 a scholarship from the Fondation Turquois to complete his studies at the Académie de Musique Prince Rainier III in the Principality of Monaco with Marie-Anne Losco, earning a DEM in Baroque Singing and Chamber Music (Class of 2019). He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Voice Performance) (Class of 2022) and his Master's degree in Performance on Historical Instruments with a specialization in Baroque Singing (Class of 2025) from the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève. Winner of the 2022 Tyrolean Classical Singer Award (sponsored prize), he has shared his warm counter-tenor timbre with diverse audiences and venues across Europe and Mexico.

Diego Galicia Suárez is a renowned for his versatility and passion for Baroque and contemporary repertoire. He is distinguished by his ability to navigate between different musical styles with technical rigor and great expressiveness. As a soloist, he has collaborated on major works such as J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 conducted by Ton Koopman (2024); Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 and Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 with the Swiss ensemble La Fontana Cantabile (2023); George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus with the ensemble Gioia cantare; and Messiah (2022) at the La Chaux-de-Fonds Music Hall. He also frequently collaborates with the Baroque ensemble Les Impertinences , directed by the Venezuelan violinist Pablo Agudo López.

In 2024 Diego Galicia Suárez starred in W.A. Mozart's Apollo et Hyacinthus with the Hassler Consort conducted by Franz Raml, performing at the Kleiner Goldener Saal in Augsburg and the Kornhaus in Ulm, Germany. In 2026, he participated in the premiere of the French version of Les Dinos et l'Arche: un opéra darwiniste by T. Leininger, singing the role of Archeopterix with the ensemble Cappella Mediterranea at La Cité Bleue. There, in 2025, he performed the role of Idraspe in Erismena by F. Cavalli, also conducted by Leonardo García-Alarcón.

Other projects: In 2025, Diego Galicia Suárez created the project Entren Santos Peregrinos: a Christmas story in Mexico. It is an improvised comedy that blends original musical and poetic creations, Baroque repertoire, and a great deal of musical improvisation to create a Mexican nativity play. This project was presented in Geneva with the ensemble Les Impertinences and was awarded the 2025 Tremplin HEM Prize by the Leenaards Foundation. Among his other projects, he has presented his work as a composer on several occasions, including at the Aires 2022 Festival (Mexico) and in various concerts in Switzerland, Monaco, and France. He also remains active with the vocal and guitar duo Les Incontournables (since August 2020), alongside Mexican musician Daniel Aztatzi . This project, created during the pandemic as an alternative to reach new audiences in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, has recently been performed with them in France and Belgium. He married Eugène Sami Lemaitre on August 22, 2025 and currently lives in Renens, Vaud Canton, Switzerland.
