Argentine soprano, composer, and vocal pedagogue, Mercedes García Blesa, began her musical journey at the age of 5 as a child singer, and she started playing the piano at 6. She formalized her classical training at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA - DAMus), where she studied piano with Juan Carlos Arabián, choral conducting with Antonio Russo, and singing under Marta Blanco. She has further honed her craft through master-classes with eminent figures in early and classical music, including Gabriel Garrido, Monique Zanetti, Max van Egmond, and Maria Cristina Kiehr.
Mercedes García Blesa possesses a highly adaptable soprano voice that spans from early Baroque and Renaissance repertoires to contemporary and Latin American art music. She has been featured at many of Argentina's most prestigious venues, including the Teatro Colón (2012-2017), Teatro Avenida, CCK (Centro Cultural Kirchner), Usina del Arte, and Ciudad Cultural Konex.
As an expert in historical performance, Mercedes García Blesa e frequently collaborates with early music ensembles (e.g., Selva Vocal e Instrumental) to perform compositions from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Her repertoire includes contemporary roles, such as Concepción in Maurice Ravel's L'heure espagnole, and participation in contemporary vocal quartets like Maithuna. She has worked under the baton of acclaimed conductors including Enrique Diemecke, Baldur Brönnimann, and Carlos López Puccio.
Beyond her stage performance, Mercedes García Blesa is a passionate advocate for Argentine chamber music. In 2023, she released the acclaimed solo album "Mujer Tierra" with Argentine chamber music from the 20th and 21st centuries, dedicated to preserving and disseminating works by Argentine composers. The album "Barriletes y Flores" is Blending her composing and writing talents, she created Barriletes y Flores, an artistic and educational musical project tailored specifically for children.
In addition to her performance career, Mercedes García Blesa is a dedicated Profesora Superior de Canto (Higher Singing Professor) at Universidad Nacional de las Artes - UNA (since August 2022). She serves as a vocal coach and coordinates singing programs at institutions like the UNA (Universidad Nacional de las Artes), where she helps train the next generation of Argentine lyrical singers. She has been working, for the last 10 years, approximately, on content focused on musical creation for childhood, the dissemination of Argentine chamber music and contemporary and innovative proposal for the dissemination of Operatic language through Audiovisual. Its main objective: to keep the sung lyrical language alive, showcasing our national repertoire, with a reach to the entire Universal public. It focuses on national projects with a projection to internationalization. |
