Franziska Groß (Soprano)

Born: 1996 - Bavaria, Germany

The German soprano, Franziska Groß, started taking piano and violin lessons from an early age on and was accepted as a junior student at the Leopold Mozart Zentrum in Augsburg at the age of 16. After graduating from high school, she initially studied instrumental pedagogy with piano and violin as her main subjects at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik Regensburg. She gained solo and chamber music experience as an instrumentalist on early age, and participated among others at the Bavarian Radio Chamber Music Course and the German Chamber Music Course. As a pianist, she has won several federal prizes in the "Jugend musiziert" competition, also she is a prize-winner of the piano duo festival of the international piano duo competition Bad Herrenalb and performed. In 2016 she made her orchestral debut with the daCapo Kammerphilharmonie München in and W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor. As a violinist, she participated in the Neue Philharmonie München and the youth orchestra of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, performing with conductors like Zubin Mehta and Kent Nagano, among others. In 2018, she received the 2nd prize at the Lions Music Competition in the solo violin category.

During her instrumental studies, Franziska Groß discovered her passion for singing. Since 2018 she is studying voice in the class of Professor Claudia Kunz-Eisenlohr at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln/Aachen (2018-2022). Her experience as a singer in choirs and ensembles includes performances with the choir Camerata Vocale Freiburg and the Ensemble Resonanz, among others. Concerts have been in Poland, France and Switzerland. She has sung under the direction of Winfried Toll and Giovanni Antonini, among others. Franziska Groß has been an academy member of the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln since autumn 2021. Also in autumn 2021, she made her debut in the university opera production of W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in the role of Despina and was awarded 2nd prize at the 6th Brigitte Kempen Competition. In spring 2022, she performed the aria "vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio" in "Ombra felice" in a W.A. Mozart Pasticcio that was performed as part of a co-production between the theatre and the university at the Theater Aachen. Since September 2022, she is studying at the Royal Academy of Music, London as part of an Erasmus scholarship.

Since December 2018, Franziska Groß and her partner Nikolai Studenikin form the "Duo Studenikin". They perform a wide-ranging program, which includes arias arranged for Guitar and Voice as well as compositions by Niccolo Paganini, Joaquin Rodrigo and many others. They often play at private and public events and regularly organize their own concerts.

Parallel to her musical work, Franziska Groß successfully completed a B.Sc. degree in psychology at the University of Freiburg (2016-2019) and is currently enrolled in the master's programme at RWTH Aachen (2020-2022).
