The German baritone, Dominic Große, studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig with Professors Friedemann Röhlig and Berthold Schmid. Master-classes with Sergej Leiferkus, Christiane Libor, Barbro Marklund, Jane Thorner-Mengedoht and Raymond Modesti rounded off his vocal training.
Dominic Große sang in the Hochschule productions the roles of Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Dandini in scenes from Rossini's La Cenerentola, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Graf von Eberbach in Lortzing's Der Wildschütz and Sid in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring and sang his first Conte Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in a free production in Greece. He gained further solo experience in the premieres of Manuel Durao's Robin Hood and Die Stuhle, Philipp Rohmer's Shalom, Herr von Stein and as Mottel in Anatevka at the Landestheater Thüringen.
From 2014 to 2016 Dominic Große was a member of the opera studio at the Stuttgart Opera, where he performed roles including Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Wigenmacher in Ariadne auf Naxos, Oberpriester in Nabucco and as 1st bass in Wolfgang Rihm's Jakob Lenz attracted attention. His other roles at the Stuttgart Opera include Kilian in Der Freischütz, 2. Nazarener in Salome, Dancaïre in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Hermann in Les contes d'Hoffmann.
Dominic Große is also in demand as a concert singer and sings the solo parts in masses and oratorios by J.S. Bach, Haydn and W.A. Mozart, among others. In October 2016 he made his debut as a soloist in Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah in Leipzig; in December 2016 he sang the solo part in J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 at the Stuttgart Liederhalle; in 2017 he performed J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 at the Stiftskirche Stuttgart and Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig.
Dominic Große has been working as a freelancer since the summer of 2016. He continues to work closely with the Staatsoper Stuttgart, where he made guest appearances as Dancaïre and 2. Nazarener in 2016-2017 and played the role of the hotel and restaurant waiter in the new production of B. Britten's Death in Venice. At Theater Kiel he made a guest appearance as Marullo in Rigoletto. As 1st bass in Andrea Breth's production of Jakob Lenz, he made a guest appearance at the Théâtre Royal La Monnaie in Brussels and made his debut with this role in the summer of 2017 at the Staatsoper Berlin in the Schillertheater. In December 2017, he briefly took over the role of Jupiter in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld at the Oper Stuttgart, where he also appeared as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in 2017-2018 and in the world premiere of Toshio Hosokawa's Earthquake.Traume he created the role of Jeronimo. At the Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg he made a guest appearance as Tsurukawa in the French premiere of Toshiro Mayuzumi's Kinkakuji/Der goldene Pavillon.
In the summer of 2019 Dominic Große made a guest appearance as the voice of Jakob Lenz at the festival in Aix-en-Provence and at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season he took on a cover engagement for Georg Nigl in the premiere production of Pascal Dusapin's Macbeth Underworld at the Opéra de la Monnaie in Brussels. During the season he returned to the Staatsoper Stuttgart as Pantalone in The Love of Three Oranges and made his debut as Dancaïre in Georges Bizet's Carmen at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Guest engagements as Hermann in Les contes d'Hoffmann at the Staatsoper Stuttgart and as Papageno at the Theater Bremen fell victim to the corona pandemic. |
