Lara Grote (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Lara Sophia Grote, began her singing training in the Düsseldorfer Mädchenchor. As part of this, she regularly took part in opera productions at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 2012 to 2016, including in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel and R. Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier. In 2017, she won the national prize at "Jugend musiziert". She completed her Bachelor's degree in the opera class at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf with an artistic major and didactics of singing education with Anja Paulus and Lieder interpretation with Hans Eijsackers; and her Master of Music degree in Singing with a focus on opera and song/oratorio at the same institute under Professor Ursula Hesse von den Steinen (2017-2022). She received further important artistic impulses from Kammersängerin Angelika Kirchschlager. Various concerts and projects have taken her to Montepulciano (Italy), Marienbasilika Kevelaer, Ruhrfestspielhaus Recklinghausen, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Apollotheater Siegen, Staatsoper Hamburg and Theater Koblenz. In November 2018 and in 2020, she was one of the finalists in the Bundeswettbewerbs Gesang des Deutschen Bühnenvereins. In October 2019 and in 2022, she was awarded a Germany scholarship from the Düsseldorfer Bürgerstiftung.

As part of the annual opera projects of the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule, Lara Grote was seen as Hermia in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dritter Knabe W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Dido in H. Purcell's Dido & Aeneas) and L'enfant in M. Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges. She made her debut at Theater Koblenz, in the role of the third flower girl in Richard Wagner's Parsifal in spring 2022. One focus of her work is ensemble singing; she is a regular guest at the Vocalensemble Rastatt and most recently received a place as an academic at the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln for the 2019-2020 season after having already worked there as a freelancer. She will be a guest at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the 2023-2024 season as Soeur Mathilde in Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites.

Lara Grote has extensive teaching experience with children, young people and adults. Her work ranges stylistically from classical vocal literature to musicals and current popular music. She regularly accompanies the vocal literature on the piano during lessons. She prepares students who wish to take part in singing competitions thoroughly and competently for the competitions. She has been teaching singing pedagogy/vocal coaching at the Musikschule Niederkassel since 2020. Her first book, entitled Vorübergänge, was published in 2021. She currently lives in Düsseldorf, Germany.
