The German mezzo-soprano and singing teacher, Uta Grunewald, studied in Lübeck and Stuttgart and completed her training with Judith Beckmann, Ingrid Bjoner, Jessica Cash and Birgit Nilsson. She is a winner of the VDMK-Gesangswettbewerbes and a Richard Wagner scholarship holder.
While still studying, Uta Grunewald made her debut in Hamburg in the leading role at the premiere of the opera Eisbruch-Herzrot. She sang at outstanding festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Europäischen Klassik-Festival Ruhr, Festival Neuer Musik Berlin, Flanders Festival, Münchner Biennale, at the Alte Oper Frankfurt/Main, Philharmonie Berlin and with renowned orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Neuen Philharmonie Westfalen, Göttinger Symphoniker, Brandenburger Symphoniker, Staatsorchester Kassel, Staatsorchester Frankfurt/Oder, Staatsorchester Braunschweig and Czech Symphony Orchestra.
Uta Grunewald's extensive repertoire includes Baroque and Classical as well as particularly contemporary works in opera and concert. A number of compositions were premiered with her participation. She has appeared in several main roles at the Staatstheater Kassel and was particularly successful in the title role of Georges Bizet's Carmen at the Bad Hersfelder Festspiele. She reinterpreted this role and that of Azucena in Savona (Italy) with Renata Scotto. In the concert area, she sings all parts from the lyrical to dramatic mezzo and alto. Television recordings such as the Wesendonklieder on ZDF, CD and radio recordings document her artistic versatility. Concert tours took her to Italy, Belgium, Greece and the Czech Republic.
Uta Grunewald also works as a singing teacher and developed a new form of singing courses to promote voice and stage presence. |
