The American mezzo-soprano, music teacher and researcher, Lauren Guthridge, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance, Oboe Secondary from Oklahoma State University (2016-2020); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Pedagogy, Minor in Music in Education from New England Conservatory (2020-2022). Her primary voice studies were with Ian Howell (NEC) and April Golliver-Mohiuddin (OSU) with voice coaching by JJ Penna, Chelsea Whitaker, Michael Strauss (NEC) and Megan Barth Argo (OSU).
Lauren Guthridge is an active solo and choral musician in the Boston area. As a member of Cantata Singers since 2022, she has enjoyed performing in both the chamber music series and larger concert series. Recent performance highlights include Jennie in Down in the Valley, Edith in Pirates of Penzance, and scenes from Ariodante, Ottone, Dido and Aeneas, and Lakmé among others. Recent choral highlights include Considering Matthew Shepard, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232, Path of Miracles, and alto soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah.
Lauren Guthridge has worked as Private Voice and Oboe Instructor (since 2018);·Administrative Assistant at Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston (July 2023-October 2024); Executive Director and Teaching Faculty - Acoustic Voice Pedagogy Workshop at Embodied Music Lab (since March 2023). Her research interests encompass motor learning theory, applications of cognitive psychology in music, and voice science. Most of her research has included human-computer interaction in voice pedagogy and science to tease out effects of increased cognitive load and varied attention on western classically trained singers. She pioneered the use of eye-tracking in the Voice and Sound Analysis Lab at New England Conservatory to aid in this research.
In her free time, Lauren Guthridge enjoys crocheting, playing board games and exploring with her partner Joel. She maintains an online voice studio, and continues to pursue research in voice pedagogy. She currently lives in Detroit, Michigan. |
