The English counter-tenor, Lewis Hammond, was alto choral scholar at Chelmsford Cathedral, Essex, where he received singing lessons from Colin Baldy and gained his DipABRSM in singing (September 2016-July 2017). Then he was Music Academical Clerk at New College, Oxford where he sang in the choir (October 2017-September 2020). He received singing lessons from Bronwen Mills. He continued his studies in France, at Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (Class of 2022), and currently (as of 2023) studies orchestral conducting at CRR de Paris - Ida Rubinstein.
Lewis Hammond has sung as the soloist in performances of George Frideric Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, and Mass in B minor BWV 232. In addition to his singing, he has some experience in conducting orchestral and vocal music, including W.A. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Antonio Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus, Nicola Porpora's Salve Regina in F, Alessandro Marcello's Oboe Concerto and a concert of solo J.S. Bach's Cantatas. He also plays the piano and the clarinet. Since September 2024, he is Interim Music Director at The Paris Choral Society. Currently he is also a member of Ensemble Correspondances (Director: Sébastien Daucé) singing alto. He lives in Versailles, France. |
