Jonathan Hartzendorf (Tenor)

Born: Hornbach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

German tenor, Jonathan Hartzendorf, studied singing from 2015 at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (HMT) in Rostock with Professor Klaus Häger (2015-2020). His Lied interpretations were influenced by Lied pianist Professor Karola Theill. Through lessons from vocal coaches Francesco Cottone and Paul Jungeblodt, he is one of the few classical singers who also use rock, pop and jazz styles. In 2018 he received the Germany Scholarship (Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung). In the same year he received the Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern sponsorship award as part of the Wettbewerbs für verfemte Musik in Schwerin. Since the winter semester of 2020, he has been studying stage singing with Uwe Schenker Primus at the Musikhochschule Franz Liszt in Weimar (2020-2022). In the same year he again received the Germany Scholarship as part of the Carin Riesen Stiftung.

The start of Jonathan Hartzendorf's studies in Weimar was particularly groundbreaking because he changed his voice type (formerly baritone) during the semester. He is a young tenor whose warm vocal color stands out particularly in his Lied interpretations. In his first year as a tenor he won 3rd prize at the Grandi Voci Wettbewerb in Salzburg and was regularly seen as Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Oper im Berg Festival. He has been a permanent member of the opera ensemble at the Landestheater Linz since the 2022-2023 season and was seen as a soloist at the Lehar Festival in Bad Ischl after his first season.
