The German mezzo-soprano and vocal coach, Sonja Haub, received piano, singing, double-bass, and recorder lessons during her school years and trained as an organist and choir director at the Bischöflichen Kirchenmusikalischen Institut im Bistum Speyer. After graduating from high school in Speyer, she studied Catholic theology at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität and music education a major in singing under Susanne and Thomas Dewald at the Musikhochschule in Mainz. She then studied singing pedagogy with Christian Dahm at the Peter-Cornelius-Konservatorium in Mainz (2019-2022). At the same time, she completed her artistic studies, successfully completing them in 2024 (Artistic Matura in Singing). As part of her dissertation in liturgy, she is currently working on post-World War II Requiem settings, thus combining her dual professions as a theologian and musician.
Sonja Haub teaches as a vocal coach at the Haus der Kirchlichen Berufe in Mainz, where she prepares students for their parish service and the resulting demands on their singing and speaking voices. She is also regularly invited by a wide variety of choirs to teach voice and to hold workshops on developing a harmonious choral sound, and she also passes this knowledge on to the two choirs she directs.
Sonja Haub also works freelance as a singer with a great passion for oratorio and Lieder, both in ensembles and as a soloist in concerts, recitals, and CD recordings.
Since the winter semester of 2024-2025, Sonja Haub has held a teaching position for voice at the Collegium musicum der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. |
