Fabian Hemmelmann (Baritone)

Born: 1977 - Lahnstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

The German baritone, Fabian Hemmelmann, studied with Professor Thomas Quasthoff (Hochschule für Musik Detmold: 1997-2000) and Professor Klesie Kelly-Moog (Hochschule für Musik Köln).

After his first performances at the age of 19 of Schubert's Winterreise and Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe with Andreas Frese on the piano in Trier, Sigmaringen and Limburg, Fabian Hemmelmann devoted himself intensively to special Lied projects during his studies, for example he presented Franz Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin in the guitar version with guitarist Christoph Weißbrod in concerts in Gießen and Frankfurt in 2006. This was followed by further recitals with Dichterliebe in the Humboldt Concert Hall in Caracas/Venezuela in 2006, H. Wolff's Italienischen Liederbuch in the Palais am Festungsgraben in Berlin as well as Goethe settings in the Weissen Saal in Stuttgart in 2008 and the Lieder recital Im Feuer der Walpurgisnacht in the renowned Köln concert series Im Zentrum Lied with his pianist Lara Jones.

Most recently, in August 2013, Fabian Hemmelmann and Martin Walser performed the Schöne Magelone by Johannes Brahms at the Festival Gegen den Strom in Bad Ems as narrator, and it was performed again in January 2016 in the Köln series Im Zentrum Lied. From autumn 2015, he also took on the role of deputy artistic director and designed his own Lieder programs for this. He also founded the Kölner Vokalsolisten, a vocal ensemble with a contemporary focus, which debuted in 2013 at the Philharmonie Köln.

With numerous oratorio works by J.S. Bach (Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248) and George Frideric Handel (Messiah) or Johannes Brahms' Requiem as well as concert stage works, Fabian Hemmelmann has sung as a soloist in the Philharmonie Köln, Beethovenhalle Bonn, Alten Oper Frankfurt, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, Limburger Dom under conductors such as Kay Johannsen, Morten Schult-Jensen and Helmuth Rilling. He currently lives in Bonn, Germany.
