The German soprano, Johanna Ihrig, grew up up in a family of musicians. She first studied English and music education at Universität Leipzig (2014-2021). She obtained her Master of Music degree in opera singing from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig (Class of 2021) with Professor Elvira Dreßen and Professor Ilse-Christine Otto. She received additional artistic impulses from Dame Emma Kirkby, Gundula Anders, Peter Kooij, Kammersängerin Dagmar Schellenberger and Philippe Herreweghe. She was a master-class scholar at the International Bachwoche Stuttgart (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann), a finalist at the Lortzing Wettbewerbes in Leipzig, and the second and audience prize winner at the Internationalen CantateBach! Wettbewerbes Greifswald 2022.
Johanna Ihrig can be seen regularly as a soloist in Central Germany. Concerts with George Frideric Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and various works by J.S. Bach have taken her to Leipzig's Nikolaikirche, Leipzig's Thomaskirche, and Dresden's Kreuzkirche.
Johanna Ihrig gained her first opera experience in 2018 as Fiordiligi in an edited version of W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte at the HMT Leipzig. In 2021 she sang Mrs. P. in a streaming recording of Michael Nyman's The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat and made her debut as First Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in a co-production with Theater Rudolstadt. At the beginning of the year she could be heard as Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in Leipzig (director: Kobie Van Rensburg, conductor: Ulrich Pakusch).
Active ensemble and choir work brought Johanna Ihrig to the Musikverein in Vienna, the Kunst- und Kulturzentrum in Lucerne, as well as to Russia, China and Israel. There she sang under the direction of Michael Alexander Willens, Florian Benfer and Andris Nelsons, among others. She is currently enjoying the musical exploration of early and contemporary music as a member of the Leipzig ensemble Neue Kammer, which will be making a guest appearance at the Berlin's Philharmonie this autumn. At this year's Greifswalder Bachwoche she will be "Artist in Residence" in the opening concert, as well as various midday music. She currently lives in Leipzig. |
