The German baritone, Lorenz Kauffer, completed pre-college singing studies at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg (2013-2015). Then studied voice performance at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (since October 2015), earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the classes of Professor Torsten Meyer and Professor Reginaldo Pinheiro and graduating with top honors. He received important artistic inspiration in master-classes with Hedwig Fassbender, Johannes Martin Kränzle, and Gerold Huber.
From 2021 to 2023, Lorenz Kauffer was a member of the Opera Studio at the Theater Freiburg, where he was mentored by Professor Reginaldo Pinheiro. His roles included the Second Apprentice in Alban Berg's Wozzeck and a leading role in the world premiere of Huihui Cheng's opera A cerebral's rhapsody, recorded by SWR (Southwest German Broadcasting). Last season, he appeared as a guest artist at the Theater Freiburg, Staatstheater Kassel, and Händel-Festspielen Karlsruhe. In August 2024, he performed as Gasparo in Donizetti's Rita at the Rathausoper Konstanz. He began a part-time position (first bass) with the Chor der Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich in March 2025.
In addition to his operatic engagements, Lorenz Kauffer is also active as a concert singer. In November 2024, he sang the role of Jeremiah in the German premiere of Klaus Huber's Sonne der Gerechtigkeit (Sun of Justice) at the Stadtkirche Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt and in the Bremer Dom. His concert repertoire includes works such as Passions, oratorios, masses, and cantatas by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Fauré, and Rossini. Lieder holds a special place in his artistic output. He regularly performs with pianist Philip Rivinius, with whom he has developed a wide-ranging repertoire of Lieder. |
