The Canadian tenor, Robert Kinar, studied in Montreal. He began singing with Simon Spiro over a decade ago when they were both in Montreal. He obtained his Master of Music degree in Performance Practice from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Since moving to Toronto, Robert Kinar has appeared with various groups in the region, including Guelph Symphony Orchestra, The Elora Singers, Toronto Masque Theatre, The Mendelssohn Singers, Tallis Choir Tafelmusik Chamber Choir (since April 2012), La Chapelle De Québec, Theatre of Early Music (Director: Daniel Taylor) and The Trinity Bach Project. He originated the lead role for the premiere of Andrew Ager’s experimental opera Führerbunker. A founding member of the vocal quartet HaKol Ha’Ivri, he created and presented several programs for Jewish Music Week: The Life and Music of Salamone Rossi (November 2023) and Songs of the Lodz Ghetto (November 2023, as part of the AGO Lodz Ghetto exhibit), and Alex Weiser's chamber opera The Great Dictionary of the Yiddish Language (June 2023). At Toronto Theatre he sang roles in Armide (2012), Der Freischutz (The Marksman) (2012, Chorus), W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (2013, Chorus), Persée (2014), Orpheus & Eurydice (2015), Armide (2015), Medea (2017).
In his spare time, Robert Kinar maintains a small vocal studio. Other interests include his work in TV and Film, playing keyboards and writing music. |
