The Irich soprano, Sarahjane King, was born in Northern Ireland and later moved to Norwich. She read music at Manchester University where she began singing lessons with Jane Irwin. After graduating, Sarahjane moved to Glasgow to continue her singing studies at the RSAMD. She completed her Masters Degree in 2003 having been generously supported by the Sir Richard Stapley Trust and the Mario Lanza Foundation. She now learns with Dinah Harris in London.
Sarahjane King has performed as a soloist with choral societies across the country and has given numerous lieder and French song recitals. Recent oratorio performances include J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243), Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and W.A. Mozart’s Mass in C minor.
Opera experience includes the role of Il Destino in Cavalli's La Calisto and ensemble for Massenet’s Manon, W.A. Mozart’s Idomeneo and Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges all at the RSAMD. Sarahjane King also sang ensemble at Haddo House Opera in their 2002 production of Verdi’s La Traviata. She has toured with Opera School Wales/Opera Box in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena and appeared with Opera Underground as both Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aneas and Titania/1st Soprano in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. She sang J. Strauss’ Fruhlingsstimmen for a New Year’s Day gala in St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich.
Sarahjane King sang ensemble for Opera Holland Park last summer in Donizetti’s La Fille du regiment, Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Ponchielli’s La Gioconda. She also sang ensemble in Sullivan’s The Gondoliers and Iolanthe with Buxton Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company in their 2008 festival.
Future engagements include recitals in London as well as ensemble with Opera Holland Park for their 2009 productions of Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux, Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera and Janacek’s Kat'a Kabanova. In 2009 Sarahjane King will also be singing the role of Echo in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel for Opera Holland Park and the role of Darinda in George Frideric Handel’s Ariodante for Scarlet Opera. |
